De aceea, compania italiana Luxottica Group, cel mai mare producator de ochelari din lume, a platit de curand 2,1 miliarde de dolari in cash pentru achizitia brandului californian Oakley. &#8220;Nimeni nu se mai poate atinge de Luxottica acum&#8221;, a declarat pentru Bloomberg News Gianluca Pacini, analist la Caboto Equity Research din Milano. &#8220;Acum este in mod indiscutabil jucatorul numarul unu din industrie, detinand crema brandurilor sport, a celor de lux si a retailerilor din industria optica.&#8221;<br \/>Aceasta preluare adauga un nou brand de nisa puternic la bogatul portofoliul al companiei cu sediul in Milano, in care se regasesc nume ca Ray-Ban sau Burberry, Prada si Ralph Lauren. Ambasadori ai ochelarilor Oakley au fost de-a lungul timpului Lance Armstrong, Annika Sorenstam si alti atleti de prim rang.
