Acest eveniment traumatizant declan&shy;seaza in narator un flux de amintiri si de reflectii, care iau forma unei istorisiri \u0084in care timpurile si locurile se misca urmand niste meandre rebele\u0093. O dragoste de tinerete lipsita de orice speranta, intalnirea cu Astrid, casatoria si copiii, viata mondena in mijlocul burgheziei intelectuale din Copenhaga, calatoriile la Paris, Lisabona sau New York &#8211; asa s-a desenat, putin cate putin, o viata cu aparenta de tihna. \u0084Acum insa &#8211; spune povestitorul &#8211; trebuie sa reinventez totul. Brodandu-mi istoria, imi dau seama cat de mult ramane viata incarcata cu umbre si taceri. Cum de a luat forma asta? Feminista declarata, scriitoarea a patronat aparitia multor nume feminine noi in arena literaturii. Celebrul sau ciclu \u0084Avalon\u0093, nascut odata cu aparitia prezentului roman (\u0084Negurile\u0093 &#8211; \u0084The Mists of Avalon\u0093, adaptat pentru televiziune intr-un miniserial de catre postul TNT), este de fapt o res&shy;crie&shy;re a mitului regelui Arthur, cu precadere, din punctul de vedere al zanei Morgaine (Morgan le Fay).
