Autorul protesteaza de aceasta data impotriva rescrierii povestii nationale sub forma de rechizitoriu, aratand ca acest masochism este o particularitate a Europei Occidentale recente. \u0084Asa cum exista propovaduitori ai urii in spatiul islamismului radical, tot asa exista propovaduitori ai rusinii in democratiile noastre, mai ales in cadrul elitelor de ganditori.\u0093 Or, noi (europenii, in general, si francezii in particular), spune Bruckner, \u0084nu suntem vinovati, in primul rand pentru ca nu exista transmitere ereditara a conditiei de victima sau de calau\u0093. Chestiunea identitatii ocupa un loc central in romanul \u0084Adevarul despre Sascha Knisch\u0093, al doilea volum al unei trilogii incepute cu \u0084<st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:City w:st=\"on\">Stockholm<\/st1:City><\/st1:place> in negru\u0093. In vara lui 1928, travestitul Sascha Knisch o reintalnestepe enigmatica Dora Wilms, cu care are o aventura. Dupa o saptamana, cand politia descopera cadavrul Dorei, barbatul este acuzat de crima.
