Dar naratiunea nu este doar cea a unui destin individual. Ea relateaza, cu pregnanta simbolica, peripetiile unei familii evreiesti din Romania: strabunicii si apoi bunicii autoarei veniti din Moldova la Bucuresti, parintii, sora, rubedeniile si prietenii din Romania anilor \u009150, felul in care cutumele ancestrale refuza sa moara, traditiile evreiesti impletite cu cele autohtone, sar-mul discret al unei burghezii care persifleaza noile mentalitati si care trateaza atmosfera ideologizanta si rigorile dictatoriale ale regimului comunist cu o subtire ironie. In cele din urma &#8211; exodul, plecarea spre Israelul anilor \u009160, <st1:place w:st=\"on\">tara<\/st1:place> tuturor fagaduintelor. Silitoare si documentata (a facut un stagiu la sediul FBI), autoarea pune in scena lumea pe care o cunoaste cel mai bine: Makedde Vanderwall, canadianca si model international, isi poarta pasii langurosi prin lumea modei, pana cand descopera ca prietena ei cea mai buna a fost ucisa.
