De o cruzime aproape insuportabila, analiza tribulatiilor celor doi se invarte in jurul mortii si sexului si etaleaza mizeria existentiala cu care se pot confrunta doi intelectuali la sfarsitul veacului XX, dintre care unul, Michel Djerzinski, este un stralucit cercetator. Bruno, profesor ratat, isi rateaza emfatic si umanitatea, atunci cand isi croieste destinul in jurul sexului, pe care il doreste polifonic, animalic. Curand voi fi batran. Si atunci se va termina totul, in sfarsit&#8230;\u0093 Intram in opera pe <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">usa<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> de iesire. Nu ziua, ci noaptea, care este conditia esentiala a zbaterilor noastre: o gaura intunecata, din marasmul careia ne putem salva, ca si la Houellebecq, doar prin moarte.
